Powerful Tools for Caregivers is a series of six weekly classes for relatives or friends providing unpaid care for a senior. It is an educational program that equips family caregivers with effective tools that make caregiving less stressful.
All caregivers, whether helping a parent, spouse, or friend, living at home, in a nursing home, or across the country, will learn how to more successfully manage the demands of caregiving.
The class will be led by Cheryl Young, LCSW of Family Eldercare. Classes will be held at the Georgetown Community Resource Center each Thursday for six weeks beginning on February 2, 2012 from 1:00 – 2:30pm.
An ABC News article recently ranked Austin as the #1 retirement hot spot in the nation. A St. David's study found that the population of those between ages 55 and 64 has increased 110% over the past decade. The Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area has the fastest-growing population of adults aged 55 to 64 in the country and the third fastest-growing population of people 64 and older.
All of these statistics lead to one tough question, "How will we care for the growing senior population in Central Texas?" Click here to read a piece by Angela Atwood, CEO of Family Eldercare, that explains how our continuum of services can help seniors age with dignity and as much independence as possible.
